PREGNANCY WEEK 35

Your baby this week

Your baby is standing tall this week at about 46cm from the head to toe and continues his/her steady weight gain. Your baby should be about 2.4kg now and would continue to get bigger until delivery day. Because your baby has grown so much, you will notice that he/she will no longer be moving as much. At this stage there isn’t enough room for somersaults and kickboxing, but you should still feel your baby move.

Your little one’s elbows, feet or head may protrude from your stomach when he/she stretches and squirms about.

Your baby’s brain is also developing at a very fast pace now but the head is still soft to allow an easier exit through the birth canal.

Your body this week

By this point, you should have gained anywhere from 11 to 13.6 kilos and your weight gain has hit its peak. Your belly button is now bigger and has popped outward.

Towards the end of your pregnancy, your baby drops, this is called lightening. Your baby is now head-down in preparation for delivery. You may be feeling breathless and get indigestion now, because the top of your uterus is just under your ribs.

Lightening can also increase the pressure on your bladder, causing more trips to the bathroom and causing you to leak a little every time you sneeze or cough or laugh.

Common symptoms that may be experienced in week 35 include:

  • Increasing clumsiness
  • Forgetfulness
  • Braxton Hicks contractions
  • Heartburn or indigestion
  • Occasional headaches
  • Varicose veins
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Bleeding gums
