Your baby this week

Your baby is getting bigger and stronger and baby now measures around 38cm from their head to their bottom and weighs a little more than 1kg. Your baby’s wrinkly skin keeps accumulating more body fat underneath.

Your can open his/her eyes and turn his/her head in your uterus in response to a bright light shining from the outside. Your little one can now blink his/her eyes, which has now grown eyelashes.

Some babies move into a head-down position in preparation for birth, but they will keep turning for a few more weeks.

Your body this week

Welcome to your third and final trimester, you are almost there!

Your big belly is getting bigger and your uterus is now about halfway between your bellybutton and your boobs. Most women gain an average of 5kg during this trimester.

You may also find that you get breathless during this period as your diaphragm is compressed by your growing uterus.

While your due date is still months away, you should have started making preparations for where your child will be born. Now is the time to learn more about labour and breathing techniques that will be useful during labour.

Other common pregnancy symptoms may include:

  • Back pain
  • Lack of sleep
  • Stretch marks
  • Flatulence
  • Constipation
