PREGNANCY WEEK 23

Your baby this week

Your little one now weighs about 500g , measures about 29cm from crown to heel and is  starting to look like a miniature newborn. Beginning this week, he/she will start to add more weight and by the  month’s end will be double this week’s weight.

This week is important for your baby’s senses. The inner ear organs have developed and balance and hearing will improve. Your baby may now be able to distinguish a distorted version of your voice.

Your body this week

You may notice a dark line down the middle of your tummy, this is called linea nigra. This line has always been there but becomes noticeable because of hyperpigmentation caused by pregnancy hormones.

Some women notice that they have new hair sprouting on their chin, upper lip, jaw, and cheeks. Pregnancy hormones cause this and may also result in fingernails growing more quickly than usual.

Pregnancy hormones also give some women, the ‘glow’. Enjoy this phase while it lasts.

Other symptoms that may be experienced this week include:

  • Bloating
  • Forgetfulness
  • Snoring
  • Bleeding gums
