Your baby this week

This week, your baby weighs 430g and measures around 27cm from head to toe. He or she can now hear when you talk. Sing or read toyour baby to see if you can get any kicks in response. You may also feel your baby stretching as he/she pushes against the wall of your uterus with the head or feet.

The first signs of teeth begin to appear in the form of tooth buds beneath his/her gum line. As your baby’s brain and nerve endings develop, he/she may reach for his/her face to experiment with his/her newfound sense of touch.

Your body this week

You may notice that your sex drive has gone into an overdrive. Some women notice that their libidos increase at this point in pregnancy. This is due, in part, to an increase in blood flow and secretions to the clitoris and vagina.

Most women will have gained between 5.5kg and 7kg by now. From now on you will begin to put on weight more steadily, averaging about 225g per week.

Other noticeable symptoms this week include:

  • Cravings for certain foods
  • Increased vaginal discharge
  • Heartburn or indigestion
  • Constipation
  • Occasional faintness or dizziness
  • Leg cramps
  • Protruding navel
