Now it is time to gather all the essentials you will need during labour and delivery. When packing your hospital bag you have to make sure you take cloths you are comfortable in as well as all the necessities. You will be more prepared if you pack your hospital bag ahead of time so you do not forget anything behind, it is advisable to pack your bag when

you are about 36 weeks pregnant except delivery is scheduled for an earlier time.

The basic list:

A. Hospital bag for your baby- baby shampoo, baby soap, baby sponge and face cloth, baby lotion, baby oil, baby comb and nail clippers, baby diaper, hooded towels, cotton wool balls, spirit, bath tub, baby blanket, baby cloths (try not to over pack), baby bottles, baby formula (if chosen method), steriliser for the bottle, baby diapers, diaper cream, changing pad, gentle baby wipes, burp cloth, baby socks, beanie, mittens, receiving blankets and a car seat (it is best for your baby’s safety).

Note: The use of Shea butter is very good for your baby’s skin and there is this belief that  the use of palm oil to bath a baby takes away every body odour of a child (THE AFRICAN WAY)

B. Hospital bag for mum- nightwear, dressing gown, slippers, maternity pads, maternity bras, breast pads, underwear, toiletries, tissues, hairbrush, towel and face cloth, massage oil, support pillow, heat pack/ water bottle, birth plan, ipod/ music and charger, books/ magazines, comfortable cloths (do not over pack), shoes, blood group card, camera and battery charger, video camera, snacks and drinks for when you are in labour; Glucose tablets will help keep you going
